Students from this established K–6 private school typically test two to four years above the national norm in junior high. Now beginning its third generation of students, Valley Presbyterian School has some impressive alumni, from a lieutenant governor to doctors, attorneys, and professors, plus countless valedictorians at elite private high schools. It’s known for a wonderfully balanced and accelerated curriculum and 17 different after-school programs, from piano to chess club to cheerleading. Indeed, Valley Presbyterian School’s team just won a national elementary-level cheerleading championship! Principal Claudia Moreland was a teacher there for 26 years before becoming principal 13 years ago; she knows every student by name. The school is especially celebrated for its affordability, successful “excel” program for children with mild learning disabilities, and distinguished 14,000-book library. It offers music, computer, art, drama, library, and P.E. classes at no extra charge. “Children are loved and nurtured here,” says Moreland.
