CSUN’s Approach to Online Teaching and Learning Results in Student Success – California State University, Northridge was among the first in the 23-campus Cal State University system to offer an online graduate-degree program. That pioneering program – CSUN’s M.S. in Communication Disorders and Sciences – not only served as a model for the creation of subsequent online graduate-degree programs for working professionals but also recently won the Outstanding Program Award from the National Awards Committee of the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA).
Offered through its Tseng College, CSUN’s online degree programs provide participants with curricula designed for working professionals and taught by the same faculty and practitioners who teach on the CSUN campus.
CSUN provides online learners with a two-week online orientation to prepare them for success in the effective use of digital technologies specific to their program. The orientation also introduces students to the eLearning team that will provide technical support throughout the course of study.
As a result, CSUN’s fully online programs have on-time graduation rates that average 70 to 80 percent, with some programs reaching over 90 percent. Graduates of CSUN online programs also regularly report both finding positions in their intended fields and getting meaningful promotions following graduation.
