Reseda Charter High School was opened in 1955 as a neighborhood high school, and became a LA Unified Affiliated Charter (dependent) in the fall of this year (2018-19). RCHS, originally built for 1500 students, will have the benefit of a 179 million-dollar modernization and is in the planning stages with groundbreaking expected in the spring of 2021. Our current student body is around 1400 students.
Reseda Charter High School is a comprehensive, college preparatory high school with four distinct schools within the school: the Charter Academy which is home to our International Dual Language Center: One-Way Spanish Dual Language (for newcomer immigrant students), the School for Advanced Studies and the Academy: College Preparatory school; the Arts Media and Entertainment Magnet, home to film production and management; the Police Academy Magnet, home to our public service academy and the Science Magnet, home to our biomedical/bio-tech and engineering programs. Our innovative 4 x 4 schedule allows students to take eight courses per year vs. the standard six courses per year, allowing for robust career pathways and certifications, in-school day college coursework, and arts in the school day. All students have access to honors coursework and 22 AP courses.
Beginning in 2019-20, all students will have the opportunity to explore computer science through AP Principles of Computer Science, Gaming and Application Development, and AP Computer Science A (for advanced mathematics students). All students at RCHS may choose to enroll in several of our 22 AP course offerings.
All students have access to our award winning advanced dance and dance team, leadership and yearbook, Reseda Theatre Company (theatre production), beginning music, marching band and concert band, NJROTC, as well as studio arts coursework. Competitive academic teams include Academic Decathlon, Cyber Patriots, HOSA, Robotics, and Skills USA. Our competitive athletic programs afford students the opportunity to compete in CIF LA City in a full range of sports from baseball, basketball, football, golf, soccer, softball, swim, tennis, track and field, to competitive cheer and more.
Reseda Charter’s 2019 Valedictorian will be attending UCLA as a Regent Scholar and the Salutatorian will be attending UC Berkeley. Reseda Charter High School is recognized by US News & World Report as one of the nation’s top High Schools and Top Magnet Schools in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
