AS ALWAYS, MARMALADE CAFÉ IS WAY AHEAD OF THE CURVE.
Anyone who loves culinary originality and diversity knows Southern California is one of the most vibrant places on the planet for unique, trend-setting restaurants. Even so, Marmalade Café is in a league of its own. Its concept of casual neighborhood diner focused on “farm to table” comfort food emphasizing health and freshness as well as gourmet passion, goes back to 1990. Marmalade Café has stayed ahead of the curve ever since.
The concept was so spot-on that now there are eight Marmalade locations, each restaurant different from the others; most would never know it was a chain. Locals enjoy the laid-back ambience and homemade dinner, lunch, and breakfast dishes. Groups and clubs love Marmalade, too – the El Segundo location had to add a second private dining room due to popular demand.
“Our concept is more relevant today than it was when we opened our first restaurant in Santa Monica 26 years ago,” says Selwyn Yosslowitz, one of the original founders. “We keep our menu fresh and evolving so we change with the pace of our guests.”
Seasonal selections at Marmalade beginning the end of June might be better this year than ever. Some of the Lunch Menu items include: Summer Lobster Rolls (Maine lobster meat dressed with black pepper aioli and celery, on warm buttered brioche buns), the Crispy Chicken Sandwich (Mary’s natural-raised chicken breast, crispy-fried and served on a La Brea brioche bun with buttermilk jalapeno slaw and pickled red onion), and the all locally-sourced SoCal Summer Salad (baby kale, toasted almonds, strawberries, Coachella Valley dates, and goat cheese tossed with wildflower honey vinaigrette).
Dinners at Marmalade Cafe offer a terrific combination of quality and value. The seasonal dinner menu is rich with summer-style favorites. Enjoy them while you can. To name a few: Pan Roasted British Columbia Salmon (sustainably farmed, served with quinoa tabbouleh, cucumber yogurt sauce and pea tendrils), Crispy Idaho Rainbow Trout (pan-seared over wilted greens, served with brown butter almandine, roasted grapes, and grilled lemon), and Barbecued Pork Ribs (slow-cooked, fall-off-the-bone ribs glazed with Marmalade Barbecue Sauce, served with Napa cabbage slaw and fries).
There are Marmalade Cafés in Sherman Oaks, Calabasas, Los Angeles’ Farmers Market, El Segundo, Santa Monica, Westlake Village and Malibu. All but the Santa Monica location have full bars, and parking is easy. For details, visit www.marmaladecafe.com or call (818) 905-8872 (Sherman Oaks).
