The Credit Union Difference: Everyone Is a Member-Owner! Today’s credit unions are sophisticated, full-service financial institutions, offering everything from credit cards to investment services and home mortgages. And, unlike banks, credit unions are member-owned with volunteer board members who are charged with making members’ financial lives better.
More than 10,000 branches and 25,000 ATMs nationwide! Think your credit union has only a few branches? Think again! Credit Union members may use the branches and ATMs of thousands of other credit unions through the CO-OP Network, giving members branch and ATM account access across the nation. At these more than 10,000 “shared branches,” credit union members can access their accounts with a government issued picture id, an account number and the name of their credit union.
You must be a member to use the services of a credit union. Credit unions operate under a state or federal charter as a member-owned, not-for-profit organization. This means that revenue is returned to the members in the form of lower loan rates and fewer fees. To join WPCCU you need only to live, work, attend church, or a post-secondary school in Los Angeles. As a resident or employee of a company located in the LADWP service area, you’re in!
